Las Vegas Show – The Price is Right, Live! at Bally’s

Fifty classic years of game show excellence sets the entertainment standard all other shows in the genre should aspire to maintain. With special prizes and addictive games as memorable in and of themselves as the program they’re a part of, “The Price is Right” has found a second home as a special, live Las Vegas show that takes the essential experience and magnifies it with famous guest hosts, larger audiences and an overflowing amount of cash and prizes. All the fun of the original family-friendly show has been preserved, from original set pieces and instantly recognizable contests and games, right down to beloved former host Bob Barker’s gorgeous showgirls.

Contestants will play such classics as Plinko, Hole in One and Cliffhanger before spinning the infamous Big Wheel to determine the wealth of their fates. Random drawings ensure that every last audience member has a chance to win a prize. The end of each show comes with the opportunity to fulfill a minor fantasy of sorts as everyone is invited to have their picture taken spinning The Big Wheel. “The Price is Right, Live!” remains true to its historic roots while living up to the standards of a top-notch Vegas show.

Georgetown University Dean’s Luncheon

I was recently given the opporunity to speak to a handful of current students at a Dean’s Lunch Seminar for my alma mater, Georgetown University.  I think I got as much out of it as the students!  They asked insightful questions about life after college, choice of major, advice, and more.  I was thrilled to be asked, and would love to speak more to students down the line.

Las Vegas Show – V The Ultimate Variety Show at Planet Hollywood

“V – The Ultimate Variety Show” eradicates confusion, dismisses uncertainty and sweeps hard choices under the rug by showcasing such a grand and varied collection of talented performers that one cannot help but have made the right choice when selecting the perfect Vegas show to attend.  Bring your wife, your children, your crazy neighbor and perhaps a very small pet as you experience a fun-scented potpourri of joy-inducing performances.  What performances?  Master jugglers, high-flying aerial acrobats, crazy gauchos, rhythmic gymnasts, clever magicians and a host of other versatile and diverse talents are waiting to create their next family-friendly segment of V.

Your host is Wally Eastwood, a world renowned juggler who appears on multiple occasions during the night, and one-ups himself with each successive act.  By the time you witness his rendition of “Funkytown,” as played by a series of balls tossed with precise accuracy onto a keyboard, you’ll have experienced a Las Vegas show with more flavor than Baskin-Robbins.  Join Eastwood, and a varied group of talented professionals, as they pool their talents into a family-friendly show that’s greater than the considerable sum of its parts.

Spotlight on… Corporate Comedian Rick Lewis!

Rick Lewis is the world’s funniest waiter.  His performance is a two-part ordeal, Rick starts off posing as a waiter for your corporate event.  As the meal progresses Rick’s interactions start to get more and more odd.  Rick’s unconventional waiter skills start to connect all those who interact with him.  The next portion of entertainment starts when the waiter starts to apologize on stage which turns into Rich’s physical comedy routine.  Rick’s combination of juggling, unicycling, acrobatics and comedy will keep your audience captivated.

Rick Lewis’ performance is so interactive that your guests won’t even realize its part of the show!

Las Vegas Show – Penn & Teller at The Rio

Legendary duo Penn & Teller’s long history of fusing edgy, unapologetic comedy with elements of masterful magic has won them a rabid fan base and worldwide acclaim as deviant purveyors of the mystical arts.  The appropriately named “Penn and Teller Theater” bears witness to a Las Vegas show that bends the rules, breaks them and then stomps on them a few times for good measure.  The ever mischievous duo celebrate confidence as an art form, showing audiences how a trick is done and then preparing for it as they observe.  What’s truly amazing is that when they pull it off, you probably still won’t see it happen.

Violating every tradition of illusion and trickery is only the beginning of a vegas show that transitions from amusing parlor tricks to some of the most exciting, innovative and often macabre displays of wonder to be seen anywhere on the Strip.  Penn plays the part of the tall, outspoken comedian and narrator, while Teller remains curiously quiet, choosing to express himself in his craft — and doing so quite effectively.  Disappearing objects, material transformations, ingested needles and the caustic comedians’ infamous magic bullet trick top off a Vegas show with a true lack of peers.

“Theology Alum Stars in One-Man Show Around the World”

The following article was written by student Brittany Coombs in advance of my Dean’s Luncheon Seminar on September 20, 2011.  She was a pleasure to speak with, and I thought she did a fantastic job with the article.

Variety entertainer Jeff Civillico (C’05) often gets asked if he “majored in juggling” while a student at Georgetown. The answer is no, of course, but he never forgets the big picture: the Hilltop is where he honed the life skills he needed to become a self-made businessman and successful performer.

Manager and promoter of a one-man show that bedazzles corporate and college crowds alike, Civillico knows there are those who see a disconnect between his elite alma mater and his career on stage. Some have suggested that if he had no plans for Washington or Wall Street, he should have gone to a school “that teaches acting on the same level that NYU or UCLA does,” he said. After all, it’s not every day that a Theology major from Georgetown becomes famous for escaping from a straightjacket while riding a unicycle, balancing a ladder on his chin, and juggling bowling balls, knives, apples, and plungers.

“But if you go to my website, you’ll say, ‘He’s the marketing director for this. He’s the membership chair for that,’” Civillico said. “So what I try to tell people is that Georgetown helps you with all the important stuff. Then you take those skills, and you apply them to whatever you do, whether it’s juggling or whether it’s law school. That’s why there’s successful actors, comedians [who have graduated] from Georgetown. Although Georgetown didn’t teach acting per se, it did teach [me] cura personalis: being a whole person, developing yourself as an informed, motivated, hungry go-getter,” he continued. “Underneath what I do on the outside—which is making you laugh and all the rest of it—to be successful, it’s the same formula.”

Corporate Entertainment Testimonial – IL Health Care Association

Dear Jeff. I just wanted to let you know that you were the perfect entertainer/emcee for the Tribute awards banquet at IHCA’s 61st Annual Convention.  During your performance, as I looked around the room, there was not one person who did not have a big smile on their face, and most were doing more than smiling…they were laughing out loud and nearly falling out of their chairs!  I heard several comments afterwards about how much they enjoyed your show.

You were also exemplary in your emcee duties.  Hosting an event to pay tribute to the well-deserving staff and volunteers of long term care facilities is such a small gesture, so having an emcee who takes this seriously just makes it more special.

I personally want to thank you for being so easy to work with.  Even the video production company commented that you were the best emcee they had worked with at this event.

All I can say is a great big “Thank You” from the IHCA staff and the Tribute attendees.

Sincerely,

Debbie Belt, Vice President Education
